Welcome to Shutter Notes, our weekly community feature. Shutter Notes gives you the chance to get to know our community members a bit better. Each member will share a little bit about themselves and their chosen image.

Lorraine Smart is an assembly worker who has been into photography for a couple of years now.

Why and how Lorraine created this image

Lorraine was quite excited to finally capture her dream image. This is the first time she’s ever taken a photo of a kingfisher. She is getting more into wildlife photography lately. While she started with photographing the moon, which she really enjoys and still photographs it, she is shifting more towards wildlife now.

Her post-processing of this image consisted of adjusting basic sharpness and denoise. She also used Lightroom Mobile to crop a bit.

Although this was taken with a fast shutter speed, she’s come to learn that you don’t always need it to get a good picture. Lorraine is now practicing with lower shutter speeds in my wildlife work.
